CAMP HILL, Pa. — Lebanon native and former Millersville basketball player Ashley Moyer-Gleich has had a steady rise to the top of the officiating world. She's just completed her fifth season in the NBA in historic fashion, becoming just the second woman ever to referee an NBA playoff game.

Those are just some of the accolades that she's accomplished that started with taking a leap in becoming a referee.

"I initially wanted to be a coach but I was in grad school getting my masters and I was on the bench for a women's game and a current referee said I should try it," said Moyer-Gleich. "It was a game I had been around for 25 years, I took a class fell in love with it and I even got to relearn it in a different fashion."

This offseason for Moyer-Gleich will include helping generate the buzz again in the next group of young officials. She will be the guest speaker at the upcoming PIAA District III ref clinic on Saturday, June 22 at Central Dauphin High School in hopes her story will inspire others to begin their career.

"We need the athletes just like they need us and we need more people to take an interest," said Moyer-Gleich. "It's another way to stay involved and it doesn't even have to be a career but refereeing really opens up the eyes from a different perspective."

With Moyer-Gleich's career continuing to grow. Getting her start here in South Central Pennsylvania is something she carries with her no matter the court she's on.

"I have a two-year-old son now so I'm going to work for him and be a role model for him and other young women who want to referee," said Moyer-Gleich. "This is so super important to me and I really try to set a great example and lead the best way I can."

The PIAA District III ref clinic at Central Dauphin starts at 9 a.m. and concludes at noon.
